BI to launch magazine for European market

NEW YORK—Crain Communications Inc. announced today it will launch Business Insurance Europe, a London-based, biweekly news magazine focused on news, trends and issues of interest to corporate risk management executives in Europe.

Staffed with a large contingent of business reporters located throughout Europe, Business Insurance Europe will begin with a pilot issue on June 12, 2006, and will be published biweekly beginning in September 2006. The print edition will be published in English, with translation of some or all of the content into several languages provided on the publication’s Web site.

“As the European Union steadily expands, risk managers are demanding to know more about new risks and opportunities in their market, while risk management continues to be one of the business world’s most critically important and dynamic subjects,” said Keith Crain, chairman of Crain Communications. “Business Insurance Europe will champion the European corporate buyer’s perspective as Business Insurance has done for its predominantly U.S. readers for nearly 40 years.”

CCI Vice President/Business Insurance Publisher Martin J. Ross III will oversee Business Insurance Europe, serving as publishing director, while Nick White, formerly with Crain Communications’ Automotive News Group, has been named associate publisher/ad director. Business Insurance Editorial Director Paul Winston, who has been promoted to BI‘s associate publisher/editorial director, will serve as editorial director for the new European publication.

Based in Business Insurance Europe‘s London headquarters, Mr. White joins the new publication from his most recent post as director of business development in Europe for Automotive News Group. He started at CCI from Leading Edge Publishing with the company’s 1998 acquisition of Automotive International, which was later titled Automotive News International under the company’s Automotive News Group. Mr. White led the international publication’s sales efforts from its London headquarters until ANI ceased publication in 2001 and he subsequently moved to further develop the international business efforts for the group.

Mr. Ross will continue to be based in New York, and Mr. Winston will continue to be based in Chicago.

“With Business Insurance, we know that corporate risk management executives in Europe are seeking news and information specifically related to the European risk market,” said Mr. Ross. “The addition of Business Insurance Europe allows us to not only deepen our coverage in Europe but to, more importantly, serve as a working tool that the European market demands. By creating a newspaper that focuses on the European risk market, we can provide the hard news and information they need to continue to raise their professional standards and capabilities.”

Among the many topics Business Insurance Europe will cover: news of property/casualty insurance market conditions; European risk analyses; trends impacting multinational risk management programs; legislative and regulatory developments; and profiles of the latest lessons, innovations and leading personalities from the business insurance market in Europe.

Headquartered at Crain Communications’ London office, Business Insurance Europe will be a business tabloid printed on high-quality, matte-finished paper. Distribution will be controlled and paid to a tightly qualified circulation of 15,000 readers, comprising senior executives responsible for risk management, analysis and financing within Europe’s largest corporations and public entities, as well as executives from Europe’s leading brokers, insurers and risk management service providers.

Geographically, the publication will be distributed to members of the European Union, as well as to such non-E.U. countries as Switzerland, Norway and Russia. The subscription price will be e150 ($177) per year.
