Interview

NAME: Glen Feinberg

NEW JOB TITLE: White Plains, New York-based partner, Fullerton Beck LLP

PREVIOUS POSITION: White Plains, New York-based partner, Wilson Elser Moskowitz Edelman & Dicker LLP

INDUSTRY OUTLOOK: Since the COVID-19 pandemic halted litigation from March through June, there is a backlog of work that lawyers, insurance companies and the courts have to address. Additionally, the courts and legislature are grappling with duties owed by businesses, employees, customers and other third parties related to COVID-19 issues. There is tremendous pressure from both sides to expand and restrict liability, which is causing uncertainty for insurers and litigants. While we don’t have answers yet, a balance ultimately will be struck, creating a greater understanding of how to move forward.

GOALS FOR NEW POSITION: My first priority is to help my clients resolve their legal problems. In addition to continuing to provide my clients with excellent lawyering and high-quality service, I look forward to working with Fullerton Beck to continue its growth within the private and insurance sectors as well as other disciplines.

CHALLENGES FACING THE INDUSTRY: The biggest challenge is how to get things done during the pandemic. Even though the firm is and has been fully operational since the outset, the courts are only still minimally open, making it difficult to move cases forward, and in some instances, creating less incentive for parties to resolve matters. Adjusting to new technology is also a challenge. While technology, like video conferencing, enables meetings and depositions to occur more easily, there is no substitute for face-to-face contact with witnesses, experts or other parties to a case, where you can feel the energy in the room while confronting parties giving inconsistent statements.

FIRST EXPERIENCE IN THE INDUSTRY JOB MARKET: Assistant district attorney in New York County from 1977 to 1982.

ADVICE: There is no substitute for doing a great job. To be a successful litigator, there are no shortcuts. You must pay close attention to every detail and thoroughly, even obsessively, prepare for every case.

OUTSIDE THE INDUSTRY, A DREAM JOB: Lead guitarist for the Rolling Stones.

COLLEGE MAJOR: Economics

LOOKING FORWARD TO: I am looking forward to collaborating with the skilled lawyers at Fullerton Beck. One of the things that attracted me to the firm was its corporate culture. The founding partners, Eileen Fullerton and Katrine Beck, created and continue to foster a collegial, collaborative atmosphere. The firm is doing great work, and everyone pulls together for a common goal and is genuinely happy to help each other.

FAVOURITE MEAL: Chicken parmesan

BOOK: Robert Caro’s biography of President Lyndon Johnson, “The Path to Power”

HOBBIES: Playing guitar, exercising and reading.

TV SHOW: “Watchmen”

ON A SATURDAY AFTERNOON: Take a good nap!
