PREVIOUS POSITION: Orange County, California-based vice president, marketing, CorVel Corp.
INDUSTRY OUTLOOK: For workers compensation, the adoption of technologies such as automated claims solutions that help increase savings are going to accelerate, especially as medical costs continue to rise. Additionally, in the face of higher premiums, more employers are either considering or already pursuing the self-insured route.
GOALS FOR NEW POSITION: Im leading business development, high-impact marketing programs and overall brand strategy for Charles Taylor TPA at a time of rapid growth for the company in the U.S. Im also partnering directly with new clients to ensure they understand our growing suite of property/casualty services.
CHALLENGES FACING THE INDUSTRY: Many of the same macro-economic trends that are impacting other industries are also posing new challenges in the insurance industry, for example rising inflation. But, over the years, Ive seen time and time again that difficult times are often laboratories of innovation that lead companies to introduce new products and services to meet shifting market conditions. Thats certainly the case for Charles Taylor right now.
FIRST EXPERIENCE IN THE INDUSTRY JOB MARKET: Early on in my career, I was an accountant and auditor at Deloitte. After a couple of years, I began with CorVel in 1995.
ADVICE: Always be learning.
OUTSIDE THE INDUSTRY, A DREAM JOB: I am always thinking of ways retailers could do a better job of marketing their products or services.
COLLEGE MAJOR: Business economics, with an emphasis in accounting at UC-Santa Barbara.
