Interview

NAME: John Jakovcic

NEW JOB TITLE: Roswell, Georgia-based chief technology officer, MedRisk LLC

PREVIOUS POSITION: Roswell, Georgia-based senior vice president, technology, MedRisk LLC

INDUSTRY OUTLOOK: As we move forward, I see technology having a greater impact on how we approach and think about serving our customers, regardless of the business we are in. Technology will be leveraged to improve the overall experience for customers and patients, boost efficiencies across the service delivery process, and provide more insights for both our customers and our own organization via analytics than we have ever been able to do in the past.

GOALS FOR NEW POSITION: I want to leverage my past experience, both the successes and the mistakes, and bring those lessons to MedRisk and help guide the organization through our long-term technology roadmap. Some areas of focus will be an enhanced and optimized user experience for our customers and internal teams along with a greater concentration on automation to bring more consistency and quality to the service we deliver to customers and patients.

CHALLENGES FACING THE INDUSTRY: Cybersecurity is always first and foremost on my mind. With attacks popping up in the news nearly every day, we need to be hyper-focused on ensuring that our customers’ and partners’ data remain secure and protected.

FIRST EXPERIENCE IN THE INDUSTRY JOB MARKET: I began in the technology industry as a consultant for Andersen Consulting right after graduating from Case Western Reserve University.

ADVICE: I have two pieces of advice I always give to new team members. First, you must stay current on emerging technologies as things change so rapidly in our industry. Second, regardless of the business you are supporting, you must take the time to understand that business. In my experience, the technology team members who truly understand the business, its goals and its needs are best able to support and develop that organization’s technology solutions.

OUTSIDE THE INDUSTRY, A DREAM JOB: I would love to be able to play on the Senior PGA Tour when I reach the qualifying age. Unfortunately, I think my golf game may indicate otherwise.

COLLEGE MAJOR: Biomedical engineering

LOOKING FORWARD TO: So far, I have been so impressed with the talent across the organization, both in the technology areas as well as our executive leadership team. I’m really just looking forward to being able to partner with such an excellent group to strategize on how to take MedRisk to a new level of success in the industry.

FAVOURITE MEAL: I know I can’t do it very often, but I love a good ribeye with a side of lobster mac and cheese.

BOOK: On the professional side, I always felt “Good to Great” was an excellent read. Personally, I had always been a huge Bob Knight fan, so I think “A Season on the Brink” was interesting as well.

HOBBIES: You will start seeing a trend, but I love getting out on the golf course. I’m also very dedicated to my exercise regimen whether it be the Peloton, the Mirror or some general strength training.

TV SHOW: “Breaking Bad.”

ON A SATURDAY AFTERNOON: You will likely find me arriving home from a round of golf, spending some time with our two dogs Sami and Whitley, then getting ready for our regular Saturday date night with my wife Kaitlyn.
