The California Senate passed bills that would extend COVID-19 presumptions for another year and expand the list of first responders eligible for a presumption that post-traumatic stress disorder is work-related.
The Senate voted 30-9 on Monday to return the amended COVID-19 measure, A.B. 1751, to the Assembly for concurrence.
The bill would extend for another year the various presumptions created in 2020 to help determine when someone contracted COVID-19 at work. The presumptions are scheduled to sunset at the end of this year. The Assembly must concur with the amendments before the measure can be sent to the governor.
SB 284, which the Senate voted 39-0 to send to the governor, would extend the PTSD presumption to active firefighting members of the Department of State Hospitals, Department of Developmental Services, Military Department and the Department of Veterans Affairs. It would also extend the presumption to security officers of the Department of Justice and the officers of a state hospital under the jurisdiction of the Department of State Hospitals or the Department of Developmental Services.
