IBI launches benchmarking consortium

SAN FRANCISCO—A new benchmarking data consortium formed by the Integrated Benefits Institute will help employers compare the performance of their absence and disability benefits programs to better understand cost drivers and gauge program impact on workforce productivity.

The consortium will include 11 of IBI’s member companies: Aon Risk Services, Broadspire Services Inc., CIGNA Group Insurance, Cambridge Integrated Services Group Inc., Crawford & Co., GatesMcDonald, The Hartford Financial Services Group Inc., Matrix Absence Management Inc., MetLife Inc., Sedgwick Claims Management Services Inc. and VPA Inc.

The consortium members will furnish IBI with de-identified workers compensation, short- and long-term disability, and Family and Medical Leave Act data for hundreds of midsize and large employers, which will be combined into a single database with information provided directly by employers.

The combined database will enable IBI to provide comparative benchmarks for incidence, cost, duration and other metrics. Employers will be able to tap into the database either through their disability benefit program vendor or directly, an IBI spokesman said.
