Kansas lawmakers consider medical marijuana bill

Lawmakers in Kansas are considering a bill that would clear medical marijuana usage for certain conditions.

S.B. 560, introduced Friday, would allow patients to use medical marijuana for such conditions as cancer, spinal cord disease or injury, traumatic brain injury, “a debilitating psychiatric disorder” or “any other chronic, debilitating or terminal condition that, in the professional judgment of a physician, would be a detriment to the patient's mental or physical health if left untreated.”

It does not address reimbursement for medical marijuana by insurers or employers.

The bill would also “restrict research related to marijuana conducted at a postsecondary educational institution, academic medical center or private research and development organization as part of a research protocol approved by an institutional review board or equivalent entity.”
