Mercedes-Benz’s workers in Brazil strike over plans on layoffs

The Sindicato dos Metalurgicos do Grande ABC labor union in Brazil said that workers at carmaker Mercedes-Benz Group AG’s local arm have gone on strike after the unit announced plans to lay off 3,600 employees, Reuters reported. Workers plan to strike until Sept. 12 after the company said it would dismiss workers and outsource operations at its truck and bus chassis plant in Sao Paulo state.
