Brazilian miner Samarco Mineracao SA and its co-owners Vale SA and BHP Group Ltd. have reportedly agreed to offer more than 100 billion Brazilian real ($19 billion) in compensation for the 2015 Fundao dam collapse – an amount which is almost double the previous offer of BRL52 billion, Bloomberg reported. The proposed increase reportedly comes after the previous compensation offer irked the Brazilian authorities, and they vowed to take stronger measures to obtain reparations.
