Orient Insurance loses over $340 million hotel fire case

A U.A.E. court has rejected Orient Insurance PJSC’s bid to recoup a 1.25 billion United Arab Emirates dirhams ($340.4 million) fire insurance claim payout, Khaleej Times reported. The insurer paid AED1.25 billion to the Address Downtown hotel in Dubai for a 2015 New Year Eve’s fire incident and lodged a civil case in Dubai against the hotel’s contractors – to recover the losses – by accusing them of failing to implement adequate fire safety measures which led to the fire.
