Peru declares 90-day emergency in Amazon communities after oil spill

Peru declared a 90-day state of emergency on Sept. 24 in the Peruvian Amazon communities of Cuninico and Urarinas after a recent oil spill in nearby rivers, The Brazilian Report reported. The decision comes after the Norperuano Pipeline, operated by Peruvian state-owned company Petroleos del Peru, ruptured, leading to a spillage of around 2,500 barrels of crude oil in the local rivers
