Peru sues Repsol for $4.5 billion over major oil spill

Lawsuit

Peru has sued six companies, including Spanish energy company Repsol, and is seeking $4.5 billion in damages for a major oil spill that was caused by a tanker ship while it was unloading oil at Repsol-owned La Pampilla refinery, Global Times reported citing AFP. The tanker was rocked by a tsunami from the eruption of a volcano near Tonga in January. Mapfre Global Risks, Mapfre Peru Insurance and Reinsurance Cos., Transtotal Maritime Agency, La Pampilla Refinery and Fratelli d'amico Armatori SpA have been named as defendants in the lawsuit alongside Repsol.
