Top 10 causes of workplace accidents cost $58.6B: Report

The top 10 causes of the most disabling workplace accidents cost employers $58.6 billion in annual medical costs and lost wage payments in 2018, according to the 2021 Liberty Mutual Workplace Safety Index, released Wednesday.

The insurer found that the top five causes of industrial accidents cost $40.5 billion, which the index broke down by type: Overexertion involving outside sources or handling an object, cost $13.3 billion; falls on the same level cost $10.6 billion; falls to a lower level cost $6.26 billion; struck by object or equipment cost $5.6 billion; and “other” exertions or bodily reactions cost $4.7 billion.
