NEW YORK—XL Insurance on Tuesday said it has appointed Joseph A. Tocco as executive vp and head of its North America property and XL global asset protection services effective Feb. 1.

He will join XL Insurance from Zurich Financial Services Ltd., where Mr. Tocco most recently was executive vp of its North American property group and global corporate business unit.

In his new role, Mr. Tocco will direct XL’s property underwriting activities, including general property and energy property business, and XL GAPS, a loss prevention consulting firm.

He will be based in New York.
